Overview
Think 'Florida' and you picture blue skies, warm waters, year-round perpetual sunshine and sun-soaked, white sandy beaches. All of which makes it a gorgeous destination to visit, of course. But beyond that there’s so much more to the Sunshine State, where you will find an inexhaustible variety of things to do.
Get up close and personal to an abundance of wildlife in its natural habitat, skim across the waters of the Everglades in an airboat, or watch the look of excitement on your children’s faces when meeting their favourite characters at Disney World or enjoying a white knuckle ride at Universal.
Enjoy a grouper sandwich and slice of key lime pie in Key West, celebrate the sensational sunsets over the Gulf or people-watch as you sip cocktails on glitzy Ocean Drive in Miami’s South Beach. Only one question remains:”How quickly can we go?”

Top tips for visiting Florida
Top Tip 1
• It’s very straightforward to drive through the Florida Keys as there is just one road in and out - Highway 1. Everything is measured by 'Mile Markers'. Start at MM127 and go through to MM0, which is when you know you've arrived in Key West.
Top Tip 2
• There are many toll roads in Florida and you may find yourself on one shortly after leaving the airport, so ensure you have some quarters to save you time. Charges vary but expect to pay approximately $1.50 each time. Alternatively you can pre-purchase a “Sunpass” which enables you to drive straight through without stopping.
Top Tip 3
• Not for nothing is this called the Sunshine State, but be aware that May to September can be fiendishly hot and humid, with temperatures rising above 95°F/35°C and a high chance of an afternoon shower. The ideal cooler-but-pleasant weather runs from March to early May and mid-October to late November.
Top Tip 4
• Orlando and its theme parks are also extremely busy in March and early April and from June to mid-August, and thoroughly packed at Christmas and New Year.
Top Tip 5
• One of Florida's most scenic drives is route A1A which hugs the coast all the way from Fernandino Beach in the north to Fort Lauderdale where it becomes Highway 1 and continues down to Key West.
Top Tip 6
• Always carry your driver’s license and your rental car contract in case you are stopped by police.
