In the area
Jasper is a charming mountain town, with a good selection of shops and great cafés to relax in. The Jasper-Yellowhead Museum and Archives is a great place to start, tucked away from the main streets but packed with photos and artefacts giving you a real feel for the history and the settlement of the town.
Jasper’s main attraction of course, is its fantastic scenery, and there are plenty of ways to get out and discover this. In winter, try cross-country ski and snow-shoe trails or thrilling dog-sledding and snowmobile tours. Marmot Basin Ski Area is just 20 minutes’ from downtown, and offers a laidback, friendly ski experience, with a good range of runs. One of the most spectacular activities is an ice-walk through the frozen Maligne Canyon. With towering walls of limestone, beautiful frozen waterfalls and ice caves, it is an experience you will not forget.
In the warmer summer months, a hike in the beautiful Maligne Canyon with impressive rock formations and dramatic waterfalls flowing beneath the bridges is not to be missed. A ride in the Jasper Sky Tram south of town offers amazing views over the verdant landscapes as you climb to the summit of Whistlers Mountain.
