The Westmark hotel is just a few minutes’ walk from excellent shopping on Anchorage’s 5th Avenue with a good selection of shops, from the modern shopping centre to the native arts and crafts stores as well as a variety of restaurants and cafes.
Close to the shopping centre is The International Gallery of Contemporary Art and there is also the Alaska State Troopers Museum, which houses a unique collection of law enforcement memorabilia.
The Imaginarium Science Centre is well worth a visit with some fascinating and interactive exhibits, alongside the popular Anchorage Museum and its excellent displays on Alaskan History.
In the other direction – right on the waterfront – sits the pretty Oscar Anderson House Museum, one of the oldest houses in the city.
